The dancing mangroves

Walakiri is known for the dwarf mangroves scattered across its sand flats. Their bent, irregularly branching trunks read as human figures mid-movement — especially when the setting sun turns them to silhouettes.

The tide decides everything

The photograph people come for needs low tide, when wet sand mirrors the sky and the mangroves stand on a thin sheet of water. At high tide they are partly submerged and the effect disappears. We time the visit to the tide rather than to the clock.

How the day ends

Walakiri is always the last stop before returning to the hotel, on both our 3D2N Package 2 and 4D3N Package 1.
