How the village is laid out
Praijing stands on a hillside with its houses arranged around a stone courtyard. The arrangement is deliberate: the central yard is ceremonial space, and ancestral tombs sit inside it rather than outside the village. From the upper edge you can see the whole pattern at once.
The viewpoint
The best vantage point is above the village, reached by a short climb. From there the line of tower roofs sits against the hills of West Sumba. Come in the morning for the best light and the coolest air.
Visiting etiquette
As at other traditional villages, entry requires permission and a betel nut offering. Several houses are still lived in, so not everything is open. Your guide will show you where you can and cannot go.
